In the most authentic Rome

Cavalieri Palace is a newly created guest house where classic Roman elegance meets modern comfort. It is located on the third floor of Palazzo Franchi de’ Cavalieri, a historic landmark overlooking Piazza Benedetto Cairoli, in the very heart of authentic Rome.

Here, among ancient alleyways, age-old traditions and the scents of historic shops, where merchants, pilgrims and artists once walked on their way to the Theatre of Pompey or Campo de’ Fiori, the same vibrant energy can still be felt today. Staying here means being fully immersed in the real Rome, just steps from its most iconic landmarks and at the center of a city deeply rooted in tradition.

The History of the Palace

Overlooking the square, the palace stands between Campo de’ Fiori, Piazza Navona and the Theatre of Pompey (Largo Argentina). It is not simply a building, but a living part of Rome’s urban fabric, telling the story of the city through centuries, noble families and historical transformations. Already depicted in Rome’s 1551 cartography, the palace stood near the prestigious Porticus Maximae of Imperial Rome. In 1652, Piazza Cairoli was enhanced by the construction of the magnificent Baroque church of San Carlo ai Catinari. In 1898, the building was acquired by Cavalier Gian Andrea Franchi de’ Cavalieri, giving it the identity it still retains today.

One of the palace’s most remarkable features is its
monumental staircase, redesigned in 1900 by engineer Pio Piacentini, a leading figure in Roman architecture of the time. His refined intervention enhanced both elegance and functionality, preserving the original vaulted structures while introducing noble materials and enduring details marble floors, sculpted stucco frames and decorative finishes designed to last. More than a passageway, the staircase is the symbolic heart of the palace, still echoing the refined pace of Rome’s late 19th-century bourgeoisie, expressing its style, proportions and grace.
